Wine expert Susy Atkins talks Dartington Food Fair and local wines

Dartington’s annual Food Fair on May 28-29 looks set to be Devon’s most delicious day out for the Bank Holiday weekend – and its action-packed schedule includes leading national journalist and author Susy Atkins’ exclusive wine tasting masterclass.

As Drinks Editor for delicious. magazine and wine columnist for the prestigious Sunday Telegraph‘s Stella magazine, Susy will be sharing her expert knowledge and insights in a special event at the Devon Drinks Shop at The Shops at Dartington on Monday 29th May from 2pm – 3pm.

What’s your favourite food or drink find from the South West?
It has to be the dazzlingly good sparkling wines from Dorset, Devon and Cornwall. World-class bubblies made in the traditional method (the same method as in the Champagne region of France), so long bottle-aged for an exquisite balance between fresh fruitiness and richer yeasty, biscuity depths. The standard of the sparklers from the top wineries of the South-west is now sky high! Read about Devon wines, vineyards and wine tours

What’s your top tip for producers looking to start up in the South West?
Join in as many food festivals as you can to show your products – I believe this is absolutely key to reaching the many foodies of the region. Our local food festivals are on an all-time high and bustling with activity. You’ve got to be there as part of the attractions! I go to as many as I can, partly because I love them, but also to be in on all there is to know about the latest on South-west produce. Read about Devon’s Street Food Scene

Susy Atkins will be just one of a whole host of leading local producers and star chefs demonstrating over the course of Sunday 28th and Monday 29th May. Now into its seventh year, the two-day family event will see visitors treated to the county’s finest food and drink, with the opportunity to watch excellent foodie workshops and be inspired for the summer season ahead.

With plenty of activities to keep the children entertained, last year’s event attracted a record breaking crowd – over 7,000 visitors flocked to this popular shopping destination near Totnes. Held in association with Food & Drink Devon, the event cements the region on the map as one of the leading food and drink producers in the UK.

All ages are welcome, and entry is free.
