A visit to a Christmas market in Devon is a fantastic way to get into the festive spirit – we all love to see the decorations, hear the brass bands and enjoy a hot toddy or two. The Hannahs Christmas Gifts Exhibition
Hannahs, Seal-Hayne, Newton Abbot, TQ12 6NQ

Lots of the craftwork on sale at this market is handmade by the on-site artists, so expect to find some really beautiful and unusual gifts. £3 entry (£2.50 early bird if booking in advance).

Plymouth Christmas Market
City Centre, PL1 2AA
20 November-14 December, 10am-7pm (Mon-Weds) 10am-9pm (Thurs-Sat) 10am-5pm (Sun)
This year’s Plymouth market is going the whole traditional hog, with unusual gift ideas, festive treats and mulled wine. The stalls will be from the Big Screen on the Piazza through to the glass bubble Christmas tree in the Place de Brest garden, and will include hot food to go including roasted chestnuts – yum!
Traditional festivities: go on a Thursday evening and listen to the choir singing carols by the Christmas tree.
Exeter Christmas Market

Expect interesting and quality offerings and a great atmosphere from the traders at Fore Street and Castle Street this Christmas – and with so many great markets in the city this year (see the Cathedral Green market too, above) you’ve no excuse for not buying local this Christmas.
Shop some more: Of course, being in Exeter these two markets are close to the city’s High Street shopping centre – so leave time to look round there too.

Cockington Christmas Fayre

If this doesn’t get you in the Christmas spirit nothing will. In the beautiful setting of this manor house there’ll be craft stalls and a whole host of other festive attractions including free arts and crafts, Father Christmas (the real one of course), choirs and even a synthetic ice rink.

Christmas Farmers’ Market at The Big Sheep

Stock up for Christmas … here (pictured right and main image) you’ll be able to get your free range turkeys, organic meats, sprouts on stalks, cheeses, cakes, puddings, biscuits, fudge, chocolate, bread, local fish – and Christmas trees too. It’s well worth a visit to this enormous free-entry indoor market if you’re nearby – and worth the trip if you’re not!
Take the kids: they’ll love the other attractions, including indoor soft play and visits to Santa – there’s an extra fee to pay for these though.
