There’s so much going on over the May-June half term week, you’ll be spoilt for choice! Devon’s Top Attractions have plenty to keep everyone entertained with a full programme of Spring Bank Holiday fun, events and activities. Whatever the weather, Devon’s leading visitor attractions have everyone’s perfect day out waiting to be discovered.
There’s lots of outdoor fun at the National Trust’s Castle Drogo. Join their bird detective trail, hunt around the garden to find the boxes and become a bird detective. Plus, there’s lots more fun going on at the other National Trust properties around Devon.
It’s Pirate Week at Crealy – so join Captain Crealy and his shipmates for some swashbuckling fun, and you could be among the first to try out Crealy’s NEW Jolly Roger ride. This giddy galleon will be setting sail on its maiden voyage during half term week. Children who visit Crealy during the May half term will receive their very own pirate hat.
There’s more pirate fun at Powderham Castle from the Pocketwatch crew. Captain Jack is making a welcome return for ‘Pirates and Mermaids Week’ and he’ll be joined by a mystical sea nymph from the ocean. Ask a mermaid-related question – and you might find out some surprising things!
Enjoy May Half Term at the Big Sheep with all their usual sheep related fun, plus meet Rex the T-Rex and his baby dinosaurson Sunday 28th May – and remember to take a ride on Rampage the rollercoaster or join in the whole host of other special activities going on.
The annual ‘Picnic at the Park’ (see top image) is back at River Dart Country Park on Sunday 4th June. There’ll be a full day of entertainment for the whole family including the opening of the NEW adventure bike trail. There’ll be dare-devil activities, live music, pony rides, a fun assault course and a dog show. It’s only £1.50 per person so make sure you book early.
Visit Kents Cavern (pictured above) this holiday as part of Geopark Festival week. Join the quest to find the missing fossils which have been lost around the site – you may have to look closely in the woodlands, dig deep in the excavations area and search in the cave system. Or why not head to Bygones in Torquay for their Half Term Teddy Bear Picnic? Bring your own bear along to join in the fun and take part in the photo challenge.
Pennywell Farm have an action-packed week of farmyard fun, animal antics, rustic rides and super shows to make a happy half term holiday. Doors open at 10am and the Pennywell team will give you a full day of hands on fun – guaranteed – with plenty of time to cuddle those delightful animals!
Head to Morwellham Quay over the Bank Holiday weekend and Meet the ‘Ragged Victorians – the great unwashed’ an award winning living history group who will be entertaining visitors over the weekend. There’s so much to do, so why not stay the weekend as camping is also available?
There’s some under-fives fun at Royal Albert Museum in Exeter where you can enjoy ‘Life on the Ocean Floor’ and set forth on a voyage of discovery under the sea. There’s lots to do for the older children too, including ancient Egyptian activities and a Roman roadshow.
Why not pay a visit to Woodlands Family Theme Park at Blackawton, near Dartmouth, this half term? On 30th May enjoy their NEW ‘Fizzpop Science’ workshops and shows or get creative at their gooey slime making workshop. Meet Titan the Robot (pictured) on 2nd June and keep a look out for their NEW exciting ride ‘Vertigo’ coming soon!
Families and children will love the NEW ‘Dinosaur Tram Adventure’ at Seaton Tramway. With music, stories, fossil dig and dinosaur activity area. Help Professor Percival uncover the secrets of a land that time forgot.
There will be character fun at the Milky Way Adventure Park in North Devon on 28th May when Marshall from PAW Patrol will be paying a visit. Or, on 3rd June, Raph and Leo from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be making special appearances at intervals throughout the day.
Head to the Miniature Pony Centre for ‘letterboxing week’ – collect all the stamps hidden in the Centre to win a prize. Plus, there’s so much else to see and do the Centre will be sure to keep the children fully entertained for the whole day.
Visit Clovelly on the 4th June for its unique Seaweed Festival. There’ll be plenty of entertainment for all the family with craft activities and workshops.
There’s plenty going on for the adults too this half term. Dads and adrenaline junkies will love the Dumper Racing at Diggerland on May 27th. They’ll be swerving and sliding through the slaloms and roaring around the course at speed trying to get around penalty free. Plus, this great attraction has an awesome new ride coming soon in the form of the NEW ‘Crazy Carts’ ride.
There’s a ’Classic and Vintage Vehicle Rally’ on at Pecorama on 28th May, which promises an outstanding display of vehicles from the last century and a perfect day out for all those car enthusiasts.
Why not get your ticket and take a ride back to the 1960’s at South Devon Railway over the bank holiday weekend? Take a magical mystery tour of groovy music, psychedelic fashion, mods and rockers and a radical real ale festival that’ll be sure to give you the ‘hippy, hippy shakes’.
